FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT SHOULD I TALK ABOUT IN THERAPY?

Psychotherapy is an invitation to talk about the things that are important to you: the things that make you unhappy, the things that worry you, that annoy or disturb you; the thoughts and feelings you never knew existed in you, or have never been able to formulate or articulate.

It is an invitation to speak about whatever comes to your mind in relation to the issues that you are faced with: how they started, how they impact your life; how they make you feel and what they remind you of.

You may talk about anything and everything: complaints, symptoms, fears, desires, dreams, fantasies, opinions, uncertainties.  There is nothing that should, or should not, be talked about.

WHAT AREAS CAN YOU HELP WITH?

People often decide to talk to a therapist because something that matters to them – a relationship, work, love, sexuality, their body or their identity – has become unmanageable or difficult to understand. Anxiety, depression, trauma, compulsive thoughts or actions, addictions and eating disorders are some of the other areas that also lead people to seek therapy. Please click here for a non-exhaustive list of areas covered.

WHAT IS THERAPY NOT FOR?

Psychoanalytic psychotherapy does not offer self-improvement techniques or ready-made answers and advice. Instead, it offers a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space where it is possible to express thoughts and wishes freely and openly.

WHERE DO I START?

Please get in touch to arrange an initial, face-to-face consultation.

This first consultation is offered free of charge and we will discuss your situation and the possibility of working together, as well as any questions and concerns you might have. Choosing a therapist who is right for you is vital to the success of the work – if you feel that what is offered is not what you are looking for, I will be happy to suggest alternatives or refer you to a colleague.

Please use the contact form to get in touch, or leave me a voicemail, and I will get back to you within 24 hours.

WHAT ABOUT FEES?

There is no fee for the initial face-to-face consultation. Ongoing fees and means of payment will be decided together during our first meeting and will depend on session frequency and personal circumstances. There are a few low-cost spaces available for people with reduced income.

LOCATION?

Sessions take place in two locations:
1. a short walk from Finsbury Park tube station (N4 3JD)

2. a short walk from Swiss Cottage tube station (NW3 5LL)

HOW LONG & HOW OFTEN?

Sessions vary slightly in length but are generally 40-60 minutes long. The length of sessions is not strictly pre-determined. Sessions can be shorter, when a pause is needed to underline or stress something important that has been revealed; or longer, when things need to be further clarified.

Our work together will be open-ended, which means that it may last from a few weeks, to months, or years.  We can discuss the rhythm of sessions that will work for you. Some people come two or three times a week, others less often. Sometimes the rhythm varies – we can discuss and agree this together.
